Ethiopia is one of the great birding destinations for both the serious and recreational ornithologists. Over 850 species of birds, many extremely beautiful and exotic, reside in Ethiopia.  16 are endemic to Ethiopia, 14 other species are shared only with Eritrea.  There are 214 species of pal arctic migrants in Ethiopia; 45 of these have been found in the country during the summer months.  

  • Day 01   Addis Ababa - Bale Mountains National Park
    On arrival in Addis Ababa you will be meet your Guide and your driver then drive from Addis to the Bale Mountains National Park.  Arrive at the park headquarters in the afternoon, in time for a leisurely afternoon hike, possibly spotting two endemic mammals that frequent the area:  Menelik's Bushbuck and the Mountain Nyala.  Birds in this area include the Blue-Winged Goose, the Spot-Breasted Lapwing, the Abyssinian Long Claw, the Wattled Ibis, the Black-Headed Siskin, Rouget’s Rail, and numerous other species.   Overnight camping near Park entrance. 

  • Day 02   Trekking Bale Mountains National Park
    Starting from Dinsho, trek to Adelay via the Geysay Valley and the Webriver, viewing the Web waterfall along the way. During the hike, there will be wonderful chances to see the Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck, Bohor Reedbuck, and possibly Colobus Monkeys.  Trekking will take 4-5 hours
    Overnight Camping.
  • Day 03   Trekking Bale Mountains National Park
    Trek from Adelay to Sodota. Most of the hiking will be accross the Kotera Plains, from which there are good chances to see the rare and endemic Ethiopian Wolf. Also pass by the Habera Waterfall.  Trekking will take 5-6 hours
    Overnight Camping.
  • Day 04   Trekking Bale Mountains National Park
    Trek to Keyransa through the Wolla Valley. There will be opportunities to see birds endemic to Ethiopia, including spot raptors and verraux and lammergeyer eagles.  Trekking will take 5-6 hours

  • Day 05   Trekking Bale Mountains National Park
    Take a very scenic hike through the Rafu Valley. There will again be chances to see different species of raptors, falcons, and eagles.  Trekking will take 4-5 hours
    Overnight Camping.
  • Day 06   Bale Mountains National Park - Addis Ababa
    Take a short trek from Gebre Gurracha up to the Sennati Plateau to meet vehicles. Return to Addis Ababa.  Enjoy dinner at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant featuring dancers and musicians representing some of the country's many ethnic groups.  Transfer to airport for late night departure or additional hotel night booked upon request.
